My Nighttime Skincare Routine.
My Skincare Routine - Night Finally! As I promised you all ages ago this is part two of my skincare routine taking you through my nightly routine! It has been months so if you need a quick refresh here is where you can find part one with my morning routine (no I won’t be offended if you just scroll through and look at the pictures). Skincare is a bit of a hobby of mine. It’s something I really enjoy doing, researching and constantly improving and particularly at night time my routine really helps me to wind down before bed.
Night is the best time to use more supercharged, richer products than you would during the day as you skin does all of its repair work while you are sleeping. So, to maximise this it’s good to use skincare products that are a level (or two) up from your day time routine. The more nutrients and active ingredients, and honestly the richer the cream the better. This is your skin’s recovery time and you want it to wake up refreshed and ready to go so if you find your skin is only just hanging on using the same stuff day and night I hope you find a tip or product in here that you can incorporate. Oh, and if you do please hit me up because I love finding out how other people’s skincare is going for them.
Before I hop into the shower I use a cotton pad with some Bioderma Sensibo Micellar Water to take off the day’s makeup. Even though one pad gets the majority off I always use at least two (three if there was eye makeup involved) to make sure I get as much residue as possible off – trust me there is always a bit more. Once in the shower I wash my face again with Frank Body’s Creamy Face Cleanser giving it a good lather and massage into my face. I do own a Foreo Luna Go which I remember to pull out every so often when I feel I need a deeper clean but as it’s become older and needed charging more often, this is becoming less and less regular. I tend to use it the most in Summer when my skin is a bit oilier from the heat and humidity which also leads to it getting more congested from wearing makeup.
Sometimes I will follow this up with the Skinstitut Enzymatic Micro Peel to exfoliate my skin but after the first week or so of use where I did this 2-3 times a week I found I really only have to do it once a week or a fortnight if I really want to stretch it out. Since discovering it through the lovely Stephanie Barreca, it has become my holy grail exfoliant and finally got me out of my need to use a physical scrub on my face. It is a bit like a mask, so you just have to put it on and leave it for a couple of minutes before washing it off and uncovering silky smooth skin.
When I’m out of the shower and all towelled off I start the main part with my eyes. This time I use a little pump of the Sukin Antioxidant Eye Serum which I pat around my eyes and into my eyebrows. I follow this up with a little bit of the Antipodes Kiwi Seed Oil Eye Cream over the top and if I have any leftover I put this onto my lips. Why in the eyebrows? Well I tint my eyebrows to hide the fact that I seem to be getting blonder as I get older (side note this is only in my brows and lashes – super weird!) and not only does it keep them feeling nice, but it seems to make the dye last longer.
Just like my day time routine I love layering serums. I always start with my hyaluronic acid to help plump up and hydrate my skin. I currently use a pump of the Chemistry Brand’s Hyaluronic Concentrate on my face, neck and chest. I follow this up with my long-time favourite product, the Body Shop’s Drops of Youth Concentrate, which I apply to my face, neck and chest generously. This serum uses plant stem cells to create a nutrient rich potion that really helps heal the skin. When I first found this serum I was looking for specific vitamin products to correct some acne marks and sun damage, but the lovely sales assistant pointed me in the direction of this multitasker and it ended up being insanely effective. Even though its cleared all my initial issues up I can’t see myself eliminating this bad boy any time soon. Then I finish up my serums with two of the Bioderma Hydrabio Serum on my face, neck and chest. While I do still love my Clinique Moisture Surge Hydrating Supercharged Concentrate from my morning routine post, I’ve recently switched back to the Bioderma Hydrabio Serum to help rehydrate my skin in winter.
I then lock it all in with a little Everyday Face Moisturiser from Frank Body in summer or the Antipodes Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream in winter. Why do I have two different ones? Well since my skin has normalised as I’ve become a bit older I no longer need a super heavy night cream to help stock up on nutrients and try to heal acne, so I can use lighter products during the day. But as with the serums I just need a bit more in winter to keep my skin happy with the cold weather. And of course, year-round I love me a good face mask which I either throw over everything at the end or treat myself with before I start my post-shower rituals.
There you have it! This completes my skincare routine as it currently stands. As I mentioned in part one I often play around with new ingredients, so I will make sure I keep you updated with any major changes. If you follow me on Insta this week I talked about how I will be starting to go more in depth on products I currently use (like all my go to face masks) and any other products I try out. So, if there is anything you think I may love – or want someone else to try before you commit to it let me know!
